Ada Lovelace

Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (10 December 1815 – 27 November 1852), born Augusta Ada Byron and now commonly known as Ada Lovelace, was an English mathematician and writer chiefly known for her work on Charles Babbage's early mechanical general-purpose computer, the analytical engine. Her notes on the engine include what is recognised as the first algorithm intended to be processed by a machine; thanks to this, she is sometimes considered the world's first computer programmer.
The computer language Ada, created on behalf of the United States Department of Defense, was named after Ada Lovelace.

"Ada Lovelace Day" is an annual event celebrated on October 16th whose goal is to "raise the profile of women in science, technology, engineering and maths". The Ada Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the involvement of women in the free culture and open source movements.

Skydiver Felix Baumgartner

Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner sets record for highest skydive and fastest freefall speed. After first launch was aborted at 9 October, second try was at 14 October. Baumgartner flew approximately 39 kilometres (24 mi) into the stratosphere over New Mexico, United States in a helium balloon. He reached 833.9mph (1,342km/h) speed and breaked sound barrier. He is the only human to go faster than the speed of sound. The project is called Red Bull Stratos.


Joseph Kittinger is previous world record holder for skydiving from 31.33 km (19.4 mi).

Bloodhound SSC, 1000mph car

Bloodhound SSC (supersonic car) faster than sound, can reach 1000mph (1600 km/h). It is being developed to break land based speed record in 2014 at 1000mph. The car has Formula 1 engine, Eurofighter jet engine and a hybrid rocket.

Antikythera Mechanism

The Antikythera mechanism is 2000 years old computer. It was discovered in a shipwreck near Greek island Antikythera at 1901. It is being displayed at Greek National Archaeological Museum in Athen now.

 It has a very complex gear system and used for astronomical calculations.
